What AI Voices are
By default CHAMELAION clones the speaker’s voice from your video, then uses that cloned voice to read the translated transcript.
With AI Voices you can skip cloning and pick one of 200+ ready to use, high quality synthetic voices instead. These voices work just like a cloned voice: they read the translated transcript in your selected target language, only with a different sound and character💯.
This is ideal if you do not want to use the original speaker’s voice, or if you want a specific style such as corporate narrator, social media voice or character voice👍.
When to use AI Voices
AI Voices are helpful when you:
Prefer a different tone or gender than the original speaker,
Want a particular style, for example social media, advertisement or narration,
Need to mix different voices in one video, for example a narrator plus several characters,
Want to give each language its own fitting voice, for example, one style for English and another one for Spanish.
You can freely combine AI Voices and voice cloning in the same project. For example, speaker 1 can use voice cloning, while speaker 2 uses an AI voice for maximum control😉.
Browsing the AI voice library
Open the Voices tab
Go to the main overview of the platform.
At the top, open the Voices tab.
Here you see the full library of 200+ premium AI voices. Each card shows:
the voice name,
the category, for example Social Media, Advertisement, Narration/Storytelling, Informative/Educational,
the origin language,
the gender,
a short description of the tone and use case.
Filter and search
You can quickly narrow down the list:
Gender filter – show male, female or all.
Origin language filter – pick the language the voice is based on
Category filter – choose if you want to see all voices or only a category such as Social Media or Narration / Storytelling (dropdown)
Search bar (top right) - search by name, gender, origin language, category or description with a single search field👍.
Favorites and previews ⭐
Click the play icon on a voice card to listen to a preview.
Click the star icon to mark a voice as a favorite.
Use the Show Only Favorites switch on the top right to display only your starred voices.
Favorites and previews are also available later inside the translation workflow🤝.
Using AI Voices on a translation
You can use AI Voices on any file you upload, or on an existing file when you create a new translation.
Open or upload a file.
For a new file, upload your video, confirm the source language and wait for the upload and initial processing.
Choose your target language in the translation panel.
Decide if you want additional options:
Background Sounds on or off
Lip Sync on or off
Glossary selection (available from the Silver plan and up, can also be added later in the Dubbing Studio, again only from Silver plan or higher)
Go to the Voice Cloning area (top of the translation controls).
Open the small selector and switch from Voice Cloning to AI Voices.
As soon as you select AI Voices, the Voice Selection window opens.
Assigning voices per speaker 🎙️
The Voice Selection window lets you choose which voice should be used for each detected speaker in your media. By default the first person who speaks will be assigned speaker 1 and so on.
Basic layout
For each speaker you see a row with:
Speaker number (1, 2, 3, …)
a Voice field that shows the selected voice
a Preview column with a play button
a Remove column with an x to delete that speaker line
There is also a Show Only Favorites toggle, which limits the list to your starred voices.
Choosing a voice for a speaker
For the speaker row you want to edit, click Select voice.
A dropdown opens with:
Default Voice Cloning – uses the original speaker’s own cloned voice.
the complete list of AI voices with name, category, origin language, gender and description
You can:
Pick Voice Cloning if you want that specific speaker to keep their own voice, or
pick any AI voice from the list if you want a synthetic voice for that speaker.
This means you can mix and match: some speakers can use voice cloning, others can use AI Voices in the same video💯.
Previewing voices inside the selector
There are two ways to preview:
In the dropdown list you can hover over the play icon to hear a quick preview of a voice.
After selecting a voice for a speaker, use the play button in the Preview column of that row to listen again.
Managing speakers
If your media has more than one speaker you can click Add Speaker to create additional speaker rows.
To remove a speaker configuration completely click the x in the Remove column for that row.
When you are happy with all assignments click Apply Voice Selection (green button in the bottom right).
Back in the main translation view you will now see AI Voices (1), AI Voices (2) and so on, depending on how many AI voices you selected for that translation.
Running the translation
Once the voices are configured, click Translate.
Under the hood CHAMELAION will:
Transcribe your original audio in the source language.
Translate the transcript into the selected target language or languages.
Synthesize the new audio with your chosen voices:
Cloned voice for speakers where you kept Voice Cloning
AI Voices for speakers where you selected an AI voice
The resulting target audio track will now use the AI voices you selected instead of, or in combination with, the original cloned voices👍.
Tips and best practices 💡
Use the Voices tab first to explore, preview and favorite voices you love, so you can find them faster inside the Voice Selection window.
For multi speaker videos, think about roles: narrator, guest, interviewer, character, and assign distinct voices to make it easy to follow.
If you are unsure which option to use, start with Voice Cloning for everyone, then switch only one speaker at a time to an AI voice and compare the results.
That is it. With AI Voices you keep the same powerful translation workflow, only with complete control over how your translated video sounds🤝.
