What are Tokens?
Tokens are CHAMELAION’s internal currency for use. This lets you run different features with a single simple balance, instead of separate credits for each tool💸.
You get a fresh token allowance with your subscription; the size depends on your plan. If you want details about plan sizes and prices, check the Plans tab on our platform or our pricing page.
What do we use Tokens for?
Here is the quick reference for how features consume tokens:

Video translation | 12,000 tokens per minute, or 200 tokens per second |
Lip-sync | 12,000 tokens per minute, or 200 tokens per second |
Text-to-Speech | 3,000 tokens per 1,000 characters, which equals three tokens per character |
Text translation | 1,000 tokens per 1,000 characters, which equals one token per character |
Audio transcription | 600 tokens per minute, or 10 tokens per second |
A few helpful examples:
Translate a 3-minute video into two languages without lip sync 3 min × 12,000 × 2 = 72,000 tokens
The same video, with lip sync Translation 72,000 + lip sync 3 min × 12,000 × 2 = 72,000, for a total of 144,000 tokens
Recreate two short segments in the dubbing studio, 5 seconds each, without lip sync 2 × 5 s × 200 = 2,000 tokens If you activate the “Lip Sync” option when clicking “Generate,” it will be applied to the entire video, not just the edited section. For a 10-minute video, lip sync adds 10 × 12,000 = 120,000 tokens per language.
What do I need to bear in mind?
Per language, processing is billed separately. A 1-minute video translated into three languages counts as three dubbing minutes.
Lip-Sync is an add-on; it consumes tokens in addition to translation.
Regenerations consume tokens again, but only for the segments you regenerate.
Text tools are character-based, and video and audio tools are time-based.
Insufficient balance stops new actions. If your balance is too low, start by adding tokens or upgrading your plan.
Extra tokens are a one-time purchase only and are not automatically renewed💯.
Team projects use the creator’s tokens for any paid action inside that shared project. If the creator has no tokens, collaborators cannot run paid actions, even if they have their own balance.

Token Cycle
Your token allowance resets every billing month on your subscription renewal date. On that date, your balance is topped back up to the amount included in your plan. Unused tokens do not roll over to the next month.
Plan changes during a cycle 🔄
Upgrades are effective immediately. You pay right away, and the new token allowance is added on top of your current balance. Features update instantly.
Downgrades are scheduled for the next renewal. Your current cycle continues unchanged; the lower plan starts when your tokens reset.
Want to check how many tokens you have left and when you will get new ones? Easy: just go to the platform and click your icon in the top-right corner 👍.

Why do we have a token cycle? 💡
The token cycle is a technical and operational requirement that keeps CHAMELAION stable and reliable. Tokens are tied to billing periods and expire at the end of the cycle; they do not carry over. Our translation workloads require significant compute🧮. To deliver consistent performance for everyone, we must plan server capacity precisely for each period based on active subscriptions and the token allowances for each plan. If tokens were transferable without limit, actual usage would be unpredictable, and we could not guarantee smooth processing at all times.
